All Aged Sale Delivers Strong Results
6 May 2019
In addition to 48 lots sold at last week’s Christchurch Sale, a further 120 lots have changed ownership today with the Auckland Sale concluding NZB Standardbred’s 2019 All Aged Sale.
A turnover of $1,573,700 was reached for the 168 lots sold over two days of trading in both locations. The average closed at $8,110 with the clearance rate a healthy 83%.
“The Sale today showed great strength and depth with key indicators surpassing previous results,” commented NZB’s Director James Jennings.
“Alabar and Woodlands Stud have played a leading role in this lucrative market with their weanling drafts contributing significantly to the outcome.
“At the close of selling, the clearance rate for the Auckland Sale soared to 94% with an equally strong average sale price of $11,045.
“The Australian buying bench was strong and welcomed a new client in Victorian-based Veterinarian Kath McIntosh who purchased seven lots for $79,000.”
The Auckland Sale saw a turnover of $1,325,350, with weanlings accounting for $1,168,150 of the receipts.
Both the average and median at the weanling session are up on last year’s results at $10,816 and $6,250 respectively, with 17 weanlings selling in excess of $20,000.
Woodlands Stud and Alabar catalogued majority of the weanling session and ended the day’s trading with individual turnovers of more than $550,000, though Woodlands Stud finished as the leading vendor by aggregate ($566,250) having consigned nine of the top 20 lots.
“We’re never sure where we are going to end up at the end of the day, but there has been a huge buying bench and we’re really pleased with the results,” commented Andrew Grierson of Woodlands Stud.
“The support for our new sire Sweet Lou has been really positive. The overall results we had today are a testament to the sires that we stand and to our staff preparing the weanlings.”
The highest priced lot of the day came late in the piece with Alabar’s weanling filly catalogued as Lot 206. Being the only southern hemisphere filly by Kadabra, Emilio and Mary Rosati went to $80,000 to secure her along with one other purchase.
Alabar also consigned the second highest priced lot of the day with an Art Major weanling colt at Lot 179 selling for $67,500. Ripple Creek’s Trent Yesberg was eager to secure the son of stakes winner and producer Alta Camilla having been outbid on several lots earlier in the day.
“The bidding has been strong today on the lots we liked, but we’ve got the one we wanted,” commented Yesberg.
“I came up to the Alabar Open Day a couple of weeks ago and he was the standout of the 50 weanlings there, he took my eye from day dot.
“Tony Dickinson has produced some really nice weanlings today. This breed is a credit to him, it’s done a great job and I’m sure will continue to do so.”
Breckon Farm’s topped the leading vendor by average table with five lots sold for an average of $10,920, including their top lot of $26,000 for Lot 78.
Lynley Park, who were also active earlier in the year at the Yearling Sale, were the leading buyer by aggregate spending $114,500 for six lots.
Art Major sold four lots at an average of $29,000, the late sire Mach Three sold three lots at an average of $21,500 while first season sire Always B Miki rounded out the top three sires by average (three or more sold) with four lots sold at an average of $20,500 - all three sires being from local stud Alabar.
All unbroken weanlings and yearlings purchased at the 2019 All Aged Sale are eligible for the Harness Million Series with approximately $1 million in prizemoney for graduates.
