Weanling Sale Catalogue Filled With Group One Bloodlines

The close relatives of generations of Australasian racetrack stars fill the catalogue confirmed for the 2023 National Weanling Sale at Karaka on May 25.

Sinbad(NZ) (Downbytheseaside) was a $26,000 Karaka weanling purchase.

NZB Standardbred is delighted with the quality line up of 123 youngsters this Sale has attracted in just its third year.In a short time, the National Weanling Sale has produced excellent results with Sinbad (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Alta Meteor (NZ) (Art Major) and My Ultimate Baxter (NZ) (Sweet Lou) going on to perform at elite levels.

With star racehorses Copy That (NZ) (American Ideal), Majestuoso (NZ) (Majestic Son), Aardiebytheseaside (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Betterzippit (NZ) (Betterthancheddar) Spanish Armada (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and Partyon (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) also sold as weanlings in New Zealand, the Sale offers a great opportunity for buyers.

 

Prominent Northern breeders Alabar will again offer an outstanding draft at the 2023 National Weanling Sale.

  • Lot 82, the Captain Crunch half-brother to open class star Alta Wiseguy (NZ) (Mach Three). Alta Wiseguy recently completed an outstanding season in which he bagged four black type races in open class.
  • Similarly, Lot 49 a colt by Captain Crunch is half-brother to another open class performer in Alta Orlando (NZ) (Courage Under Fire), the winner of $350,000 with a lifetime mark of 1.49.8.
  • Lot 20 colt by Always B Miki who is a full brother to Group One placegetter Miki Montana (NZ) and is closely related to New Zealand Cup champion Thefixer (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).
  • Lot 70 is by sire Majestic Son and is closely related to two-time NZB Standardbred Harness Million winner Highgrove (NZ) (Love You).
  • Lot 9 is a Majestic Son filly from Aspiring Monarch (NZ), a full sister to Group One winner Royal Aspirations (NZ) who has gone on to be an outstanding trotting sire.
  • Lot 22 by Lazarus a filly from the Fake Left mare Cyathea (NZ). Cyathea has left the multiple stakes race winning pacer Cyamach (NZ) (Mach Three), as well as Group One performer Star Of Montana (NZ) (Art Major).
     

Leading breeding nursery Woodlands Stud will also offer a sizeable draft filled with quality stock.

Among its offerings is

  • Lot 8, a Bettor’s Delight full sister to the Group One winning pacer Ohoka’s Bondy (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight). The filly is also a full sister to stakes-performer Dancing Diamonds (NZ) who has left the champion filly Princess Tiffany (NZ) (Art Major).
  • Lot 52 from Lady Smack (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) by Downbytheseaside, with the dam a half-sister to champion mare The Orange Agent (NZ) (American Ideal) and the dam of stakes performer Ideal Agent (NZ) (American Ideal).
  • Lot 92 is a filly by Downbytheseaside, out of the Group One winning mare Running On Faith (NZ) (Soky’s Atom).
  • Lot 109 is a Downbytheseaside filly from the two-time Group One winning mare Utmost Delight (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).
  • Woodlands also offer Lot 28 by sire What The Hill, a filly closely related to champion trotter-turned-sire Speeding Spur (NZ).
  • Both Lot 12 and Lot 94 are closely related to another star of New Zealand’s open class trotting ranks in Majestic Man (NZ) (Majestic Son).
     

Southern breeding powerhouse Macca Lodge will send 14 weanlings north to Karaka for the National Weanling Sale.

Among their stellar line up is a close relation to former racetrack superstar Themightyquinn (NZ) (Washington VC).

  • Lot 108 is by Fear The Dragon from a full sister to Themightyquinn in Themightykendall (NZ).

Macca Lodge will also offer a close relation to New Zealand open class star B D Joe (NZ) (Roll With Joe) in Lot 17, a colt by Raging Bull (NZ).
 

Tardina Stud will offer a quality line up of six youngsters.

Their line up includes Lot 23, a half-brother by Downbytheseaside to the multiple Group One winning pacer Chase Auckland (NZ) (Auckland Reactor).

Tardina Stud will also offer Lot 59, a Downbytheseaside filly from the outstanding producer Hi Ho Silver Lining (NZ) (Badlands Hanover).

All weanlings purchased at the 2023 National Weanling Sale at Karaka are eligible to be entered for NZB Standardbred’s lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series.
