Trotting Talent Available in 2023 Catalogue

The best trotting genetics available from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres are set to be offered at NZB Standardbred’s 2023 National Yearling Sale at Auckland and Christchurch later this week.

Prospective buyers can select from a catalogue filled with the progeny of champion racehorses and certified siring stars including the likes of Majestic Son, Love You, Father Patrick and What The Hill to name a few.

22 trotting yearlings will be offered at Karaka on Sunday 19 February, with a further 64 to be sold during the dedicated trotting session on Monday 20 February at Canterbury Agricultural Park.  
 

Majestic Son (CAN) 

Majestic Son

Majestic Son is a five-time Champion trotting sire in New Zealand and seven-time leading sire of trotters in Australia, with both achievements ensuring his status as Australasia’s king of trotting stallions.

Reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year Sundees Son (NZ) (Majestic Son) has led the way for his sire, collecting three-straight Group One Dominion titles during his domination of New Zealand squaregaiting.

Superstar performers and Group One winners Majestic Man (NZ) (Majestic Son) and Majestuoso (NZ) (Majestic Son) have also produced outstanding results that have kept Majestic Son’s name in the spotlight.

Five Majestic Son yearlings are set to be sold at Karaka, with a further nine to go under the hammer at the Christchurch session.

  • Among the stallion’s stellar line-up at Karaka is Lot 2, a Majestic Son colt out of Yankeedoosie (NZ) (Muscles Yankee) offered on account of Breckon Farms. The yearling’s dam is a full-sister to champion trotter and million-dollar earner Icandoosit (NZ) (Muscles Yankee).
  • Lot 183, a colt by Majestic Son offered by Studholme Bloodstock, combines the power of two incredible stallions. This lot’s dam Sungait Sally (NZ) (Pegasus Spur) is from the maternal family of the incredible stallion Sundon (USA).
  • Lot 193 is out of Vacanza (NZ) (Dream Vacation), making him a half-brother to the open-class star Vacation Hill (NZ) (Muscle Hill) and sells in Christchurch on account of B.C Hutton.

During his 16 years available to breeders in New Zealand, Love You has established himself as an exceptional producer of trotting yearlings.

The French-bred stallion has consistently produced top-level horses from Monbet (NZ) and Lemond (NZ) to current stars Queen Elida (NZ) and NZB Standardbred graduate Highgrove (NZ), who has been victorious in two consecutive Harness Million Series races, earning himself $231,932 in prizemoney for Diamond Racing Stables.

Progeny by the seasoned sire is still very much in hot demand. This year, a draft of 11 Love You yearlings will be offered at the 2023 National Yearling Sale in Auckland and Christchurch.

  • Love You’s outstanding line-up includes Lot 148, a gelding out of Glenferrie Pride (NZ) (Muscles Yankee) on account of Loburn Limited. This lot is from the family of the outstanding mare Pride Of Petite (NZ) (Royal Prestige).
  • Offered by White Stables, Lot 166 is a colt out of talented race mare One Over Da Skye (NZ) (Majestic Son). This Lot’s granddam is multiple Group One winner One Over Kenny (NZ) (Sundon), making him three-quarter relation to Group One winner Ultimate Stride (NZ) (Love You).
  • L. Smith will offer Lot 168 at Christchurch. This Lot is the second foal out of stakes performing mare Missandei (NZ) (Angus Hall).
     

Father Patrick (USA)

A certified racetrack champion banking more than US$2.6 million Father Patrick has been a star of the sales ring having produced the highest-priced yearling in standardbred history.

Firmly established in the top echelon of North American sires, Father Patrick has made an immediate impact on the New Zealand trotting scene.

In the age-group ranks, High Energy (NZ) announced herself as an incredible talent with a breathtaking performance in the recent Group One Ace Of Hearts 2YO Fillies Trot (1980m) at Addington.

Confessional (NZ) also ran to a powerful victory in the Group One Ace Of Clubs 2YO Colts & Geldings Trot (1980m) on the same night during the Grand Prix meeting at Addington.

  • High Energy’s full brother is among the eight Father Patrick yearlings to be offered in Auckland. Lot 78 is a colt out of the outstanding race mare High Gait (NZ) (Muscles Yankee), offered by Breckon Farms.
  • Also in their draft is Lot 96, the second foal and first colt out of the brilliant former race mare Luby Lou (NZ) (Muscle Hill), winner of the Group One Trotting Derby and Group Two New Zealand Trotting Oaks.
  • A Father Patrick colt out of Polar Blast (NZ) (Muscles Yankee) is among his sire’s stellar line-up of eight yearlings in Christchurch. Lot 176 is a half-brother to open-class star Ronald J (NZ) (Love You) and will be offered by Dunvegan Lodge.
  • Among Father Patrick’s quality fillies on offer is Lot 178. She is the first foal from the Group One-winning mare Renezmae (NZ) (The Pres) offered on account of Mr JD Harrington.
     

What The Hill (CAN)

What The Hill was a million-dollar trotter in North America, where his progeny have already made their mark on the track.

The stallion’s stock in Australasia have just completed their first two-year-old season with Dreambigaimhigh (AUS), notching What The Hill’s first Group One victory down under in the NSW Two-Year-Old Trot Final.

NZB Standardbred graduates Kiss And Run (NZ), Luby Lill (NZ) and Regal Girl (NZ) have led the way for What The Hill’s progeny in New Zealand.

  • A full sister to Luby Lill is among the six What The Hill yearlings to be offered at Karaka. Lot 93 is out of Luby Ann (NZ) (Andover Hall), making her a half-sister to Group One winner Luby Lou (NZ) (Muscle Hill) and will be offered by Breckon Farms.
  • Lot 133 offered in Christchurch by G. M. Murray is a colt whose second dam is outstanding mare Enthuse (NZ) (Gee Whiz II). Producer of three Group winners including Inspire (NZ) (Chiola Hanover), Enthusiast (NZ) (Chiola Hanover) and Call You Later (Call Me Now).
  • Eight What The Hill yearlings will also be offered in Christchurch including Lot 182 on account of M. Caig. The colt is out of the outstanding producer Sun Mist (NZ) (Sundon), who has left nine winners from nine starters.
     

Champion stallion Muscle Hill (USA), as well as emerging forces Creatine (USA), Volstead (USA), Tactical Landing (USA) and En Solitaire (FR) add to the incredible depth of sires represented in the 2023 National Yearling Sale catalogue.
 

The Sale will take place in Auckland on Sunday 19 February, with selling continuing in Christchurch from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 February.

The 2023 Harness Million Series Meeting for three-year-olds will take place at Cambridge Raceway on Friday 17 February.

All yearlings have been inspected by NZB Standardbred agents at the 2023 on-farm parades, who are available to provide inspection notes or complete evaluations on behalf of buyers.
