Braeview Kelly (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) qualified for her next Group One target in the best possible style at Menangle on Saturday night.

The NZB Standardbred graduate booked her ticket into next week’s A$200,000 Group One Queen Elizabeth II Mile (1609m) with a brilliant victory in the A$50,000 Group Three Sibelia Stakes (1609m).

Braeview Kelly was purchased for $27,500 by Paul and Mandy Pearce of Braeview when she was offered on account of P. A. Boyle at the 2019 Christchurch Yearling Sale.

The classy mare was rated the hot favourite for Saturday night’s feature and she didn’t let her backers down. Braeview Kelly surged to the lead soon after the start of the Sibelia Stakes and from there, she and driver Cameron Hart never gave their rivals a look in.

The Jack Trainor-trained pacer went on to win the Group Three event in a scintillating time of 1:50:4. The victory added to Braeview Kelly’s outstanding record in Australia. After producing excellent form and footing it with the best fillies of her age group in New Zealand, the mare joined the Trainor stable where she has won eight of her 11 starts.

With wins in both of her outings since returning from a spell, Braeview Kelly will go into the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Mile on February 25 third up, primed for a big effort.

Braeview Kelly is by Champion sire Bettor’s Delight from Idolise (NZ) (American Ideal), whose granddam is the outstanding producer Impish (NZ) (Falcon Seelster).

Several yearlings from the Impish family are set to be offered at the 2023 National Yearling Sale in Auckland and Christchurch from 19 to 22 February.

Breckon Farms will offer Lot 114, Lot 117 and Lot 123, all from the Impish family.

  • Lot 114 is an Always B Miki filly out of Spandau Ballet (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), this Lot’s dam is a half-sister to Group One winner Twist And Twirl (NZ) (Artsplace).
  • Lot 117, another yearling from Braeview Kelly’s family. The filly is by Bettor’s Delight out of Spin To Win (NZ) (Mach Three), also making the dam a half-sister to Twist and Twirl.
  • Lot 123 is a colt by Bettor’s Delight is from the outstanding Group One producer Twist And Twirl (NZ) (Artsplace).
  • Lot 245 in Christchurch is a filly by Betting Line from Crackabeach (NZ) (Somebeachsomewhere) offered by Shard Farm. This lot’s granddam is none other than Impish herself.

In more strong results from Menangle on Saturday night, NZB Standardbred graduate Port Au Prince (NZ) (Somebeachsomewhere) scored his fifth win in just his eighth start in Australia.

Fellow NZB Standardbred graduates Invitation Only (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and Cantfindabettorman (NZ) (Sweet Lou) also qualified for this week’s A$250,000 Group One Chariots Of Fire with strong efforts.
