Quality Bloodlines to the Fore in 2022 National Yearling Sale Catalogue

Close relations to an incredible line up of Australasian harness racing stars are set to go under the hammer at NZB Standardbred’s 2022 National Yearling Sale at Karaka and Canterbury Agricultural Park from 13 to 16 February.

New Zealand’s National Standardbred Yearling Sale has earned its stellar international reputation through the remarkable racetrack results of kiwi-bred horses, along with the acclaimed horsemanship skills of its many respected consignors and preparers. However, the catalogue is also never short of high-quality pedigree credentials and 2022 is no exception to that rule.

The 2022 edition will see another catalogue stacked with outstanding genetics and names of champion horses that have dominated recent Group One races across Australia and New Zealand.

Notable highlights among the 2022 National Standardbred Yearling Sale catalogue include:

Lot 242 is related to 2019 US Harness Horse of the Year Shartin.
  • Lot 242 is a filly by Bettor’s Delight out of winning mare Bagdarin (NZ) (Live Or Die). She is the dam of record-breaking 2019 US Harness Horse of the Year Shartin (NZ) (Tintin In America), who managed to accumulate over US$2.5 million in prizemoney throughout her career. The half-sister to New Zealand’s champion female pacing export will be offered by Rosedale Farm at Canterbury Agricultural Park. 
  • A close relation to one of New Zealand’s greatest trotting exports will also be offered at Christchurch. Lot 152 is filly by Majestic Son out of Sundon mare Begin (NZ). This lot is a half-sister to millionaire trotter and nine-time Group One winner Tornado Valley (NZ) (Skyvalley), consigned by Belmont Park.
  • Lot 261 is a full sister to two-time Derby Champion and NZB Standardbred Harness Million Series winner Krug (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and offers prospective buyers yet another chance to secure a blueblood filly for their racing and breeding businesses. The filly is by Champion sire Bettor’s Delight out of star Group Two-winning racemare Champagne Princess (NZ) (Soky’s Atom) and will be presented under the Smolenski Stables draft at the Christchurch Sale.
  • Lot 407 is a three-quarter-sister to open class star and recent New Zealand record-breaker South Coast Arden (NZ) (Somebeachsomewhere) offered by Arden Lodge at Canterbury Agricultural Park. The filly is by Captaintreacherous out of classy performer Southwind Arden (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), herself a half-sister to three Group winners. 
  • Widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s most exciting racehorses, Akuta (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) features prominently on the pedigree page of Lot 229. This filly by Always B Miki is a half-sister to the dual Group One-winning star and is out of Christian Cullen mare Adore To Our Dreams (NZ). She will be offered on account of Renwick Farm at the Christchurch Sale. 
    Lot 229 is a half-sister to Group One winner as a 2YO, Akuta (NZ). 
  • Lot 78 is a half-brother to New Zealand Cup victor and multiple Group winner Copy That (NZ) (American Ideal). This colt is by leading North American freshman sire Downbytheseaside out of winning mare Lively Nights (NZ) (Live Or Die) and will be offered at Karaka by Woodlands Stud.
  • Lot 6 is a full-sister to Group One winner and New Zealand Cup Carnival star It’s All About Faith (NZ). This filly is by Captaintreacherous out of Group One-winning dam Veste (NZ) (Christian Cullen) and will be offered by Hollis & Robertson Equine Services at the Karaka Sales Centre.
  • Breeding giants Breckon Farms will offer a full brother to New Zealand Cup winner Thefixer (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight). Lot 8 is a colt by Bettor’s Delight out of Group One-winning mare Tosti Girl (NZ) (Christian Cullen).
  • One of the first lots to head through the sale ring at Karaka is Lot 3, who is a half-brother to multiple Group winner in Classie Brigade (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight). Presented by Alabar (NZ), the colt by Art Major is out of Group Three-winning racemare Trigirl Brigade (NZ) Mach Three).

With 138 yearlings set to go under the hammer in Auckland and a further 277 in Christchurch, the action-packed week of inspections, parades and selling is set to appeal to buyers and investors, both locally and internationally.

All unbroken yearlings purchased at the 2022 National Standardbred Yearling Sale are eligible for the lucrative $1million dollar Harness Million Sale Race Series.

2022 marks the debut of the pre-NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale meeting, with a mega race night of six Group or Listed races confirmed for Alexandra Park on the eve of the Sale. Starting at the later than usual time of 7:30PM (NZT), the Harness Million Series meeting will be held on Saturday 12 February 2022, before selling commences at Karaka on Sunday.

Buyers can purchase confidently with all yearlings available to inspect during on-farm parades. NZB Standardbred and New Zealand based-agents and trainers will be available to inspect on behalf of prior to the Sale and on the grounds at the Karaka Sales Centre and Canterbury Agricultural Park.
