Paramount Kiwi (NZ) (Father Patrick) produced a display of pure trotting power to brilliantly win the $75,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Harness Million Trot (1980m)at Addington on Friday night.

The youngster left an outstanding field behind him when he powered to victory for trainer-driver Matthew White.

Paramount Kiwi was purchased by his trainer for $40,000 when he was offered among the Studholme Bloodstock draft at the 2022 National Yearling Sale in Christchurch.

White sent the two-year-old to the lead in the early stages of Friday night’s lucrative feature, and from there, victory barely looked in doubt.

'It all worked out really well; he trotted along nicely and did it quite easily at the finish,” White said.

Unbeaten in three starts, the future looks extremely bright for Paramount Kiwi, who has a host of trotting features to aim for over the spring and summer.

“He has always been a nice horse; I have always liked him. You would think he has a pretty bright future after tonight.”

There were plenty of positives for White to take in when he inspected Paramount Kiwi as a yearling at the 2022 National Yearling Sale in Christchurch and the trainer didn’t let the trotter get away.

“There was plenty to like about him, his temperament, and the way he was put together; he was just a nice horse.”

Paramount Kiwi was bred and offered for sale by Studholme Bloodstock's Brian West along with Graham Gimblett, with White syndicating the trotter among a group of his stable supporters, including his wife Brigette Solomon.

In just her second start, Lil Whip (NZ) (Father Patrick) ran on strongly to take the second place behind Paramount Kiwi, sealing a quinella for sire Father Patrick.

The filly settled in midfield before speeding home late to take second place for trainer Regan Todd and driver Craig Ferguson.

Todd purchased Lil Whip for $26,000 for owner Graham Hand at the 2022 National Yearling Sale in Christchurch when she was offered among Laura Smith's draft.

After settling last in the running and working around the field, Princess Sadie (NZ) (Muscle Mass) ran a very creditable third place for trainer-driver Matthew Williamson.

Also offered among Laura Smith's draft, Princess Sadie was purchased by her trainer for just $15,000 before being syndicated among a big group of owners.
