Purdon power is set to be a key factor when an outstanding field clashes in the $150,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Harness Million Two-Year-Old Fillies Final (1980m) at Addington on Friday night.

A seriously talented class of NZB Standardbred graduates have been assembled for the lucrative feature.

Brothers Mark and Barry Purdon have a big hand in the event with two runners each from their powerful barns.

Mark Purdon, alongside son and training partner Nathan, start Waterfront (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) and Madrid (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) in the Harness Million Two-Year-Old Fillies Final.

The pair recently finished one-two in a heat of the Sires Stakes Series and they are evenly matched heading into Friday night’s feature.

“There isn’t a lot between them at all, they have both come through their runs really well too and their work has been good,” Mark Purdon said.
“Waterfront seems to be on the way up, she’s improving and hopefully she can be better again.”
“Madrid punched through from the second row last week and ran a nice race, she’s a lovely filly, too.”

Waterfront was secured for $45,000 by All Stars Racing Stable from the Breckon Farms draft at the 2022 National Yearling Sale in Christchurch.

Madrid was knocked down to leading owner Jean Feiss at the same sale when she was offered by Georgia Brooke Lodge.

Barry Purdon and training partner Scott Phelan have two talented fillies stepping out in the Harness Million Two-Year-Old Fillies Final in Kiss (NZ) (Always B Miki) and Ultimate Racy Girl (NZ) (Ultimate Machete).

Kiss looks a serious threat after securing a perfect draw in barrier 2.

Ultimate Racy Girl is drawn directly behind her stablemate and she comes into her first Harness Million tilt following an excellent second behind race rival Coastal Babe (NZ) (Downbytheseaside).

Coastal Babe brings the strongest resumé to the Harness Million Two-Year-Old Fillies Final.

The classy filly was an outstanding winner of her last start in the $104,000 Group One Caduceus Club Fillies Classic (2200m) at Alexandra Park.

Coastal Babe equalled the New Zealand record for a two-year-old pacing filly over 2200m, set by fellow NZB Standardbred graduate and former Harness Million champion True Fantasy (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).

The classy field assembled for the $150,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Harness Million Two-Year-Old Fillies Final (1980m) will clash at 8.08pm Addington on Friday night.
