Ollivici’s (NZ) (Orlando Vici) star continued to rise when he powered to a dominant victory in the Group Two A$30,000 Tornado Valley Final (2240m) at Melton.

The NZB Standardbred graduate backed up an excellent heat victory to make it a perfect five from five in 2022 when running away from his rivals for an emphatic win for trainer-driver Chris Lang.

The champion horseman purchased his star trotter for $51,000 from breeder-vendor Kevin Chapman who offered the horse among Aimee Edmonds’ draft at the 2019 Christchurch National Yearling Sale.

Lang is ranked among the elite trotting trainers in Australasia, having produced a seemingly endless lineup of brilliant squaregaiters.

Following Ollivici’s brilliant win in the Tornado Valley Final, the master trainer made the big call of rating his four-year-old as good as any horse he has trained.

“He is a very well gaited animal, he has got high speed. For where he is at now, I would rate him as good as I have ever trained basically,” Lang said.

Lang has won three Interdominion trotting titles with New Zealand-breds – two with Sundon’s Gift (NZ) (Sundon) and another with Galleon’s Sunset (NZ) (Sundon).

The trainer-driver has his eyes firmly on this year’s Interdominion series in Melbourne with his rising star, Ollivici.

“The Interdominion is the number one goal the way things are panning out at present.”

“I still dream of going back to Sweden one day, so he needs to win that Interdominion. It is a big ask for a four-year-old, but that is our main game.

“Obviously if he is going well in those elite level races you can go where the money is. We will just target those bigger cash, prizemoney races,” he said.

Lang brought up a memorable personal milestone with Ollivici’s victory. It notched the Victorian horseman’s 1000th career driving win in Australia.

The Group Two Tornado Valley Final is named in honour of one of New Zealand’s greatest ever trotting exports in Tornado Valley (NZ) (Skyvalley).

The New Zealand-bred won the 2018 Interdominion Trotting Final during his million-dollar career.
