NZB Standardbred Trifecta First Group Victory

27 February 2020

After his third start, 2019 NZB Standardbred Sales graduate Krug (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) scored a front-running victory in the Group Three Sapling Stakes (1609m) race for two-year-old pacers last Friday at Ashburton.

2019 Yearling Sale graduate Krug (NZ) claims first Group Three victory.

Trained by Cran Dalgety and Nathan Purdon, Krug marks the first ever New Zealand Bloodstock stakes-winning graduate, after undertaking the selling of standardbreds last year.

Secured from the Smolenski Stables draft at the 2019 Christchurch Yearling Sale, Krug was purchased by Kentuckiana Lodge for $155,000.

NZB Standardbred produced the trifecta in the race when Krug held out fellow graduates First Class (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), who was runner-up, and third place-getter Boyzhavtime (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) in a dash up the Ashburton straight.

First Class was purchased from the Rosedale Farm draft for $50,000 by the Kennard’s, while Boyzhavtime was secured by Havtime Breeding for $17,500.

After a whirlwind week at NZB Standardbred’s second-ever Yearling Sale, attention turns to the All Age Sale, featuring a selection of the very best weanlings, yearlings, two-year-olds, unraced stock, racehorses and broodmares on offer.
