Matt Anderson Claims First Group Victory with Town Echo (NZ)
2 March 2020
After only two starts for two wins, Town Echo (NZ) (Art Major) secured her first ever stakes victory at the Cheviot Harness Racing Club meeting at Addington on Sunday.
The Art Major filly verified her favouritism in the Group Three ‘Downbytheseaside’ Leonard Memorial Stakes (2000m) race for two-year-old pacing fillies.
Town Echo led the race for its entirety but ended up fighting her way to the finish, holding out Sweet Lizzie (NZ) (Sweet Lou) by a neck.
A graduate of NZB Standardbred’s 2019 National Yearling Sale, trainer-driver Matt Anderson purchased her for $30,000 out of the Breckon Farms draft.
Having won her first start in the Diamond Creek Farm Mobile Pace (1980m) for two-year-old fillies two weeks ago, Sunday’s triumph was Anderson’s first Group victory as a trainer.
The win has also qualified Town Echo for the NZ Sires Stakes Two-Year-Old Fillies Series.
