Built For Glory (NZ) Continues Rise with Group Two Victory

22 April 2024

Built For Glory (NZ) took out the $54,000 Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes.

Stonewall Stud doubled up in the $54,000 Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes (2700m) with the outstanding victory from Built For Glory (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).

The classy pacer headed a quinella for trainers Steve and Amanda Telfer with NZB Standardbred graduates when running to victory for driver Tim Williams.

Built For Glory was secured by Stonewall Stud for $260,000 when he was offered among the Shard Farm draft at the 2022 National Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Built For Glory led and dug in to score over his stablemate Double Jeopardy (NZ) (Captaintreacherous) who chased gamely in the homestraight.

With just nine starts to his name, the best is still yet to come from Built For Glory following his breakthrough Group Two win.

“I think this fellow is definitely a progressive type, he is still a little bit green but he is getting better with each start which is the main thing,” Williams said.
Williams found the front early in Sunday’s feature, which set his rivals a big task to catch Built For Glory.

Though the pacer has come from behind the pace in his recent wins, he showed a new strength in his Southern Supremacy Stakes win.

“It worked in our favour getting the lead pretty cheaply, but it probably wasn’t his favoured position as he hasn’t done a lot of racing there,” Williams said.
“Luckily enough he was good enough to stick his head out on the line.”

Double Jeopardy rallied strongly in the home straight, getting within a half-head of the winner at the line.

Producing the quinella in the Southern Supremacy Stakes delivered a huge thrill for the Stonewall Stud team.

“To get the quinella in the Supremacy is just huge, we are really rapt,” Amanda Telfer said.

Demonstrating NZB Standardbred is the premier source of quality racehorses, the entire Southern Supremacy Stakes field was made up of NZB Standardbred graduates.

After sitting parked for the second half of the feature event, Harrison John (NZ) (Always B Miki) fought on gamely to run third.

Dreams Are Free ran on strongly to finish fourth ahead of his stablemate Miraculous (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).

Song Sung Blue (NZ) (Sweet Lou) was next across the line, ahead of Dawson (NZ) (Sweet Lou).

Stonewall Stud, Steve and Amanda Telfer and Tim Williams also produced NZB Standardbred graduate Ohoka Connor (NZ) (Sunshine Beach) to win the Southern Supremacy Stakes Final last year.
