Another outstanding catalogue has been assembled for NZB Standardbred’s 2023 National Yearling Sale held at Karaka and Canterbury Agricultural Park next summer. 

The online catalogue for the fifth annual yearling harvest is available to view here, with printed copies due to arrive in mailboxes in early December.

NZB Standardbred is looking forward to welcoming back its international friends to the National Yearling Sale for the first time since 2020, operating over four days of action-packed selling. The Sale will commence Sunday 19 February in Auckland and run from Monday 20 February until Wednesday 22 February in Christchurch.

This year’s catalogue boasts a selection of proven and emerging sires representing both gaits, including Always B Miki, American Ideal, Art Major, Bettor’s Delight, Captaintreacherous, Downbytheseaside, En Solitaire, Fear The Dragon, Majestic Son, Muscle Hill, Tactical Landing, Vincent, Volstead and What The Hill.

Also included is a strong line up of progeny by first season sires including Captain Crunch, Lather Up and Stay Hungry, set to debut their first crops at auction in Auckland and Christchurch.

Buyers will also have the opportunity to secure top-class yearlings from blueblooded families, with a number of siblings to Group One winners and progeny from Group One-winning dams.

  • Offered by Woodlands Stud, Lot 79 is an American Ideal colt out of Lively Nights (NZ), who is a full brother to talented Group One winner Copy That (NZ).
  • Lot 123 is a Bettor’s Delight colt out of Group One-winning dam Twist and Twirl (NZ), who recently received the 2022 New Zealand Pacing Broodmare of Excellence award. This lot hails from an exceptional Breckon Farms’ family, being a full brother to multiple Group One winner Bettor Twist (NZ) and a half-brother to prolific Group One-winning King Of Swing (Rocknroll Hanover).
  • Offered on account of Laura Smith, Lot 174 is a filly by Muscle Hill out of Pegasus Spur mare Paramount Faith (NZ). This lot of a full sister to 2021 Group One New Zealand Trotting Championship winner Muscle Mountain (NZ).
  • White Stables will offer a colt (Lot 180) by second season sire En Solitaire out of multiple Group One-winning Sundon mare One Over Kenny (NZ). This Lot is a half-sibling to three Group winners including One Over Da Moon (NZ) (Majestic Son), Ultimate Stride (Love You) and One Over All (NZ) (Angus Hall).
  • Offered by Renwick Farm, Lot 199 is a colt by Bettor’s Delight out of Christian Cullen mare Adore To Our Dreams (NZ), making him a full brother to leading NZB Standardbred graduate and multiple Group One winner Akuta (NZ).
  • Lot 240 is a Bettor’s Delight filly out of Christian Dreamer (NZ) (Christian Cullen) offered by Shard Farm, making her a full sister to seven-time Group One winner Amazing Dream (NZ), as well as Group One winner (Lets) Chase the Dream (NZ).

With 128 yearlings set to go under the hammer in Auckland and a further 278 in Christchurch, the thrilling few days of inspections and selling are set to appeal to buyers and investors, both locally and internationally.

All unbroken yearlings purchased at the 2023 National Standardbred Yearling Sale are eligible for the lucrative $1 million dollar Harness Million Sale Race Series.

2023 marks the second year of the pre-NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale race meeting, with a mega race night of six Group or Listed races confirmed for Alexandra Park on Friday 17 February before selling commences on Sunday.

Buyers can purchase confidently, with all yearlings available for inspection during the on-farm parades. NZB Standardbred and New Zealand based-agents and trainers will be available to inspect on behalf of prior to the Sale and on the grounds at the Karaka Sales Centre and Canterbury Agricultural Park.

Buyers wishing to purchase remotely can participate via NZB’s user-friendly online bidding platform standardbred.bidonline.nzb.co.nz, while all buyers and agents are welcome to attend the physical sale sessions in person in Auckland and Christchurch.
