Weanling Session Big on Numbers and Quality

Contributing to a large proportion of NZB Standardbred’s All Aged Sale are 130 weanlings, offering a new opportunity for standardbred owners with all weanlings now eligible to nominate for the Harness Million Series.

The first 11 weanlings will go under the hammer in Christchurch while the remaining 119 will be presented in Auckland a week later. Alabar and Woodlands Stud will offer 115 weanlings between the two farms with Sweet Lou also playing a prominent role being the sire of 26 weanling lots. Adding to the numbers, 19 trotting weanlings are also catalogued in the Sale.

 

Sweet Lou was runner-up to Captaintreacherous last year on the USA Two-Year-Old Sire of the Year rankings. His 26 weanlings on offer include Lot 97 who is from a granddaughter of Victor Supreme, Lot 142 who is a half-brother to Delight Brigade and the dam of Classie Brigade, and Lot 136 who is a half-sister to Group One winner Besotted.

 

Captaintreacherous will be represented by Lot 194, a filly out of a full sister to NZ Sires’ Stakes winner and Southern Supremacy winner Texican.

 

American Ideal has 14 weanlings going under the hammer, led by Lot 165. This filly is from Group One performer Victor’s Delight who is a half-sister to last season’s Harness Jewels 4YO Diamond winner Utmost Delight, both daughters of multiple Pacing Mare of the Year Victor Supreme.

 

Woodlands Stud’s dual hemisphere champion Bettor’s Delight has six weanlings on offer, including Lot 121, a colt out of the family of Lewinsky Franco and Breeders Crown winner Lilac Stride. Lot 94, note he is a colt by Bettor’s Delight, has had a timely pedigree update with his half-brother winning again since the catalogue went to print. Group One winners Cheer The Lady and Spanish Armada, both by Bettor’s Delight, feature on his page.

 

Alabar’s Lot 137 is an Art Major half-sister to the brilliant Maczaffair, now the winner of 21 races in WA, including the Group One WA Oaks, and $488,188 in prizemoney.

 

Another well-related Art Major weanling will be offered on account of Paulette Screen Racing at Lot 173. This filly is out of a Bettor’s Delight mare from the family of Pacing Major, All U Need is Faith, Linda Lovegrace and the smart two-year-old in Smooth Deal.

 

The first progeny by the fastest ever standardbred, Always B Miki (1.46), will be presented at the Auckland Sale by Alabar Stud with three colts and two fillies, including Lot 89 who is a half-brother to Isaiah, winner of $537,545 in prizemoney. Lot 135 is from a half-sister to Hug the Wind and to the dam of Chase Auckland, Lot 202 is a colt out of nine-time winner Cougar Bromac, while Lot 204 is a filly out of a half-sister to NZ Cup winner The Fixer.

 

Tony Dickinson, under his Alta Breeding banner, is reducing stock and will present his draft early with seven weanlings at the Sale. Lot 116 is a half-brother to Alta Orlando and Alta Shelby, Lot 139 is a colt out of seven-time winner Princess Arts and Lot 179 is from the proven producer Alta Camilla, the dam of five to race for five black-type winners.

Seven-time Group One-winning mare One Dream has two grandsons on offer in Christchurch and Auckland. Lot 53 is a Rock N Roll Heaven colt out of her Christian Cullen daughter Dreaminthemaking and Lot 170 is an Art Major colt out of her Western Ideal daughter Western Willow.

 

The line-up of 19 trotting weanlings is an attraction in itself with all eligible for the trotting legs of the Harness Million Series.

 

Love You is represented by a filly catalogued at Lot 129. She is out of a winning daughter of the outstanding race mare Martina H, winner of the Group One Dominion Trotting Handicap and Rowe Cup.

 

New Zealand’s Leading Sire Majestic Son will have five weanlings on offer, including Lot 120 who is a colt out of six-time winner Letz Hope, Lot 158 who is a filly out of a winning half-sister to Sovereignty and Lot 160 who is a filly out of a sister to Sheemon.

 

Other trotting sires to be represented include the progeny of Pegasus Spur. Lot 90 is out of Earl’s Lady, a seven-time winner and sister to Charlemagne, Lot 92 is out of a half-sister to Uncle Petrika and Neville Vaughan, Lot 105 descends from Landora’s Pride while Lot 119 is out of a half-sister to Flying Hardwick, 22-time winner in Australia, and Musgrove.

 

Peak will be represented by two quality fillies in Lots 104 and 118, as well as a colt (Lot 124) out of a half-sister to Prime Power.

 

Lot 206 is a daughter of trotting sire Kadabra and comes from the family of the proven trotting producer Cyclone Vance, the dam of six black-type winners.
