2018-19 Owner Of The Year, Jean Feiss.

The 2018-19 Airpark Canterbury & Addington Raceway Owners Pass Owner Of The Year Victorian Jean Feiss collected top honours at Saturday’s Harness Racing New Zealand 2018-19 Awards.

Jean and Bill Feiss’ passion for harness racing saw Jean represented by five nominees in the various categories for Age Group Horse Of The Year. A remarkable result given only raced six horses total here over the entire season.

SMOOTH DEAL (2yo colt) won the Group One Young Guns Final.

VIRGIL (2yo gelding) delivered its owners the Young Guns quinella and won the Diamond Creek Classic.

AMAZING DREAM (2yo filly) won the Group One Caduceus Fillies Classic and the Sales Series.

JESSE DUKE (3yo colt) triumphed in a Harness Jewel’s.

ELLE MAC (4yo mare) capped a wonderful season, where she had to race against the boys on many occasions, with a Harness Jewel’s win and then acknowledgement as 4YO Pacing Mare Of The Year. During the season she paced two national records including a sensational mile rate of 1.51.6 over 1700 meters at Alexandra Park. Elle Mac earlier in her career also took out the 2YO Pacing Filly Award and now boasts earnings of $607,678.

Jean has based her ownership solely on selecting yearlings at the Sales and has developed a reputation for the winning bid. One journalist described that “Jean Feiss knocked one out of the park at the Karaka Yearling Sale today for the second year in a row”.

Age Group Horse Of The Year titles aren’t new to Jean either as Spanish Armada (a year older than Elle Mac) took out both her 2YO and 3YO Filly editions.

Jean makes countless weekend or week long trips across the Tasman, sometimes with Bill or with the next generation, granddaughter Emily along for the ride.

She really is a supernatural selector.
