Graduates Ready to Demonstrate Class at Kaikoura
28 October 2022
If betting markets are anything to go by, NZB Standardbred graduates are set to dominate the $50,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales Series Aged Classic (2400m) on Monday.
National Standardbred Yearling Sale purchases head the market for the feature event set down to be run at the picturesque South Bay Racecourse at Kaikoura.
Anything Goes (NZ) (American Ideal) has been made the early favourite for the NZB Standardbred sponsored feature following an excellent last-start placing at Addington.
The four-year-old was purchased by trainer Steve Dolan for $38,000 from Studholme Bloodstock draft at the 2019 Christchurch National Yearling Sale.
Anything Goes was close up second behind star alumnus Krug (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) in his latest outing at Addington, which looks to be outstanding form heading into Monday’s feature.
Anything Goes gets a head-start on several of his NZB Standardbred counterparts who start behind him on a 10 metre handicap.
“He has been racing super, being off the front line is a big help because he has been making good beginnings,” driver Matthew Williamson said.
“If he can begin well again, he will be hard to beat.
“It is a good, strong, even race and the start will be one of the keys to it.”
The 10 metre markers include Dashing Major (NZ) (Art Major) who ran a very gritty third behind Anything Goes and Krug in their recent Addington clash.
Dashing Major was secured for $37,000 from Rosedale Farm’s draft at the 2019 Christchurch National Yearling Sale.
Tommy Waterhouse (NZ) (American Ideal) will be out to notch a second win at stakes level in the NZB Standardbred NZ Yearling Sales Series Aged Classic.
The pacer comes into Monday’s race after a big effort for third in the Tuapeka Cup.
Trainer Kirstin Barclay said that her four-year-old has thrived since that outing and is on track for a strong performance at Kaikoura.
Lastly, Tango In Heaven (NZ) (Rock N Roll Heaven) heads south for trainer-driver Tony Herlihy to also start from the 10 metre mark.
Herlihy purchased the pacer for $30,000 when he was offered by Wairau Farm at the 2019 Auckland National Yearling Sale.
Fernleigh Cash (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), who was purchased by Stonewall Stud at the 2019 Christchurch National Yearling Sale, also heads south for Monday’s Listed feature.
Shan Noble is the solo starter on the 20 metres back mark in the NZB Standardbred NZ Yearling Sales Series Aged Classic.
Well proven at stakes level with his multiple Group race placings, the All Stars Stable pacer was badly checked in his last start and just needs a clear run to be able to show his class on Monday.
Shan Noble was purchased for $76,000 by the All Stars Racing Stables from Spreydon Lodge at the 2019 Christchurch National Yearling Sale.
The $50,000 Listed NZB Standardbred NZ Yearling Sales Series Aged Classic (2400m) will be run as Race 8 at Kaikoura on Monday 31 October.
