Millwood Nike Unbeaten Following Brilliant Harness Million Triumph

14 October 2022

Millwood Nike (NZ) remains unbeaten after her victory in the $150,000 2022 Harness Million Series Fillies Pace (1982m)

Class shone through when brilliant filly Millwood Nike (NZ) (Captaintreacherous) extended her unbeaten record with a victory in the $150,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Two-Year-Old Fillies Pace (1980m) at Addington on Friday night.

There was barely a moment of concern for punters who backed the star pacer into red-hot favouritism as Millwood Nike ran away to score for trainers Mark Purdon and Hayden Cullen.

With five wins from five starts, including a Group One and a Harness Million title on her record, the classy filly has already proven to be an outstanding buy for All Stars Racing Stables.

Millwood Nike was secured by her trainers for $75,000 from the Millwood Farm draft at the 2021 National Yearling Sales in Christchurch.

Driver Mark Purdon had a decision to make when initially caught wide in Friday night’s lucrative feature.

The champion trainer-driver quickly elected to press forward and control the NZB Standardbred Two-Year-Old Fillies Pace in front with his star filly. From there, Millwood Nike raced away to a commanding victory, banking her the biggest purse of her career.

Luvstruck (NZ) (Art Major) chased hard in a meritorious second behind her stablemate from the Purdon-Cullen stable.

Luvstruck led early before trailing the winner and producing a smart finish.

The filly was purchased by Philip and Glenys Kennard of PI & GJ Kennard Bloodstock from breeder-vendors Breckon Farms at the 2021 National Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Millwood Nike and Luvstruck are now set to go head-to-head again in a heat of the Sires Stakes Championship as they attempt to qualify for the Group One Final of the Series during the New Zealand Cup Carnival.

Mystify Me (NZ) (Art Major) boosted her record with a black-type placing after running third placing behind Millwood Nike for trainers Robert and Jenna Dunn of Diamond Racing.

The filly was purchased by the Dunn’s for $55,000 when she was offered by Laura Smith at the 2021 National Yearling Sale in Christchurch.

The Dunn-trained Judine (NZ) (Art Major) was close up behind her stablemate in fourth.

Judine was secured by Diamond Racing Stables for $80,000 from the Breckon Farms’ draft at the 2021 National Yearling Sale at Karaka.
