Hot and Treacherous (NZ) was a $60,000 yearling purchase.

The NZB Standardbred graduate put more black type on his outstanding record when outstaying his rivals in just his fourth Australian start on Saturday night.

Hot And Treacherous was purchased out of the Breckon Farms draft at the 2019 National Yearling Sales at Karaka for $60,000 by Brian Hughes.

Hughes and son Gareth prepared the pacer to win 10 races in New Zealand, with multiple victories at stakes level, before Hot And Treacherous was sold to Australian interests.

The open class star has hit the ground running across the Tasman, coming into Saturday night’s feature on the back of a slick 1:53.7 mile win at Albion Park.

Hot And Treacherous then returned to show off his staying prowess in a strong performance to score at Listed level for trainer Jack Butler and driver Nathan Dawson.

Dawson took absolutely no chances with the NZB Standardbred graduate in The Flashing Red Handicap.

The pair landed a sweet run in the one-one, but rather than risking getting stuck there, Dawson opted to move up outside the leader with a lap to go.

From there, Hot And Treacherous asserted his dominance over a stellar field to win with style.

Despite working hard and starting from a 10m handicap, the New Zealand bred ran the 2647m feature out in an impressive 1:58.8 mile rate.

Saturday night’s win shows Hot And Treacherous is right on track for his tilt at the lucrative Constellations Carnival in Brisbane which includes feature events including the A$400,000 Group One Blacks A Fake Championship (2680m) and the A$200,000 Group One Sunshine Sprint (1660m).
