Harness Million Contestants Battle Again at Harness Jewels

5 June 2021

Regal Attire (NZ).

Premium barrier draws are set to put NZB Standardbred graduates Regal Attire (NZ) (Muscle Hill) and Outamyway (NZ) (Love You) in prime positions to contest the $100,000 Group One Mitre 10 3YO Ruby (1609m) at the Harness Jewels held this Sunday 6 June.

With his form on the rise, the Cambridge feature has come at the perfect time for the Hayden Cullen trained Regal Attire.

The three-year-old comes into his Harness Jewels assignment after going down by the narrowest of margins to Outamyway, after a thrilling finish to the $75,000 Listed Harness Million Three-Year-Old Trot (1980m) at Addington last month.

Cullen was thrilled with that performance and rates Regal Attire as a winning threat who may have flown under the radar leading into Sunday’s race.

“He was a lot better last start and he has got a bit of gate speed there too,” the trainer said.

“I thought if he found the markers he would be a bit of a smokey.

“His work has really stepped up a lot, I am really happy with him.”

Outmyway was offered by White Stables for $17,500 at NZB Standardbred's 2019 National Yearling Sale in Christchurch.

Regal Attire starts from barrier 2 for Natalie Rasmussen, with Outamyway and driver Blair Orange outside them in barrier 3.

Outamyway comes into the Harness Jewels fresh off clinching back-to-back Harness Million titles.

Like Regal Attire, the Paul Nairn trained colt will take catching from his prime draw.

Regal Attire was offered by Breckon Farms for $65,000 at the 2019 National Yearling Sale in Auckland.

Salvo (NZ) (Love You) has also secured a vital draw in Sunday’s Group One event.

The Jack Harrington trained filly starts from the coveted barrier 1 draw for driver Tim Williams.

Son Of Patrick (NZ) (Father Patrick) follows Salvo out from barrier 1 on the second row.

The Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan trained three-year-old just needs the splits to go his way to make an impact on Sunday’s race.

Leaf Stride (NZ) (Love You), another key threat in the race in starts wide the front line.

The mile 1609m distance of the 3YO Ruby looks ideal for the Phil Williamson trained trotter, who has placed three times in black-type events over sprint distances this season.

Five runners in the Group One 3YO Ruby were secured from NZB Standardbred sales.

The Group One Mitre 10 3YO Ruby (1609m) will be run as Race 5 a5 2:05pm on Sunday 6 June at Cambridge Raceway.
