Entries Open for 2024 National Standardbred Yearling Sale

Entries for NZB Standardbred’s 2024 National Yearling Sale are now open, with the Sale taking place next summer in Auckland on Sunday 18 February and Christchurch on Tuesday 20 to Wednesday 21 February.

The condensed three-day sale with a rest day between Auckland and Christchurch sessions allows the incorporation of trotters and pacers across all sale days as well as allowing time for travel and inspections.

NZB Standardbred Manager Cam Bray anticipates a solid session of trade at next year’s National Yearling Sale.

“NZB Standardbred has been entrusted with hosting New Zealand’s premier standardbred sale for five years now, and we’re proud to have provided significant increases in returns to breeders, vendors and owners during that time,” he commented.

“Since 2019 our combined aggregate has increased from $12 million to closer to $14 million, plus a steady increase in our average from $40,000 to $51,000.

“Not to mention the various challenges we’ve overcome during COVID where we introduced a state-of-art online bidding platform, that has since become embedded as part of a leading hybrid sales experience.”

The New Zealand-bred horses have continued to perform on racetracks across Australasia and further afield, ensuring demand for quality Kiwi stock. In Australia alone, New Zealand horses claimed 33 Group One races during the last calendar season.

On the domestic scene, the recent announcement regarding the new strategic partnering arrangement between the TAB and Entain and likely stakes increases for the harness code should provide a timely boost for the racing scene and provide certainty and confidence for the local buying bench going forward.

“There are plenty of positives happening within the industry and we are looking forward to another successful National Yearling Sale where we feel privileged to sell quality bloodstock on behalf of our vendors and breeders,” added Bray.
