Chase A Dream Turns Tables In Heartful Harness Million Triumph

Chase a Dream (NZ) and winning connections.

Speed and stamina carried Chase A Dream (NZ) (Captaintreacherous) to a brilliant victory amid a nail-biting finish to the $200,000 Listed Harness Million Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Final (2200m) at Alexandra Park on Friday night.

Driver Natalie Rasmussen produced a key tactical drive as her brilliant NZB Standardbred graduate edged out his arch-rival Cold Chisel (NZ) (Always B Miki) at the end of an epic homestraight duel.

Last year at Addington it was Cold Chisel who edged out Chase A Dream in the $200,000 Listed NZB Standardbred Harness Million Two-Year-Old Colts And Geldings Final.

But in 2024 the tables turned as Chase A Dream used his brilliant speed at both ends of the Harness Million Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Final to win.

Rasmussen made a key move when blasting Chase A Dream forward to take the lead after he drew a tough spot on the outside of the front line.

Cold Chisel trailed the Mark and Nathan Purdon trained winner throughout to set up a thrilling home straight.

Nathan Purdon credited stable team member Allison Ward for her work in developing Chase A Dream after his lucrative victory.

The brilliant three-year-old was offered among the Studholme Bloodstock Draft at the 2022 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch.

Following his purchase, Ward worked with the colt to help him realise his potential.

“Allison Ward did a lot of the work with this horse early days,” Nathan Purdon said.

“He could have gone one way or the other early one, but he was a typical ‘want it his way’ colt.”

“But he came around to the right way.”

“And now he is starting to reap the rewards.”

Two close relations to Chase A Dream will be offered among the Studholme Bloodstock draft at the 2024 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 20 and 21.

Lot 276 is a Downbytheseaside (USA) colt from Chase A Dream’s maternal family, being from the Secret Dream (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).

Lot 282 is also from Chase A Dream’s maternal family and is by Lazarus (NZ) from Secret Potion (NZ) (Courage Under Fire).

Cold Chisel lost no admirers with his very narrow second placing in Friday night’s lucrative feature.

The star pacer was sourced by Montana Park at the 2022 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch when he was offered by Denario Breeding.

The breeder-vendors will offer Cold Chisel’s half-brother at the 2024 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch.

Lot 292 is a Captaintreacherous (USA) colt from the black-type producer Shezaball (NZ) (Presidential Ball).

Jeremiah (NZ) (Lazarus) ran on strongly to take third in the Harness Million Three-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Final.

The pacer’s half-brother will also be offered at the 2024 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch.

Lot 156 is a Bettor’s Wish (USA) colt from the strong producer Flyover (NZ) (Live Or Die).

Hadron Collider (NZ) (Sweet Lou) was next across the line in fourth, ahead of the fifth placed Major Hot (NZ) (Art Major).
