Braeview Kelly Breaks 1.50 in Career-Defining Menangle Stakes Win

Braeview Kelly (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) broke the magical 1.50 barrier with a dazzling display of speed to win the A$30,000 Group Three Frith Stakes (1609m) at Menangle on Saturday night.
The New Zealand-bred and raced mare put a career-defining 1.49.6 mark on her record when leading home a quinella of NZB Standardbred graduates by holding out her stablemate Town Echo (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).
Braeview Kelly was purchased by Paul and Mandy Pearce of Braeview for $27,500 when she was offered by breeder-vendors Millwood Farm at the 2019 Christchurch Yearling Sale.
Breaking the all-important 1.50 barrier boosted Braeveiw Kelly’s residual value immensely for the Pierces, who race the mare from Jack Trainor’s Menangle stable.
Braeview Kelly did so in incredible style, clearing out from her rivals to win by a big 16-metre margin.
“I have been really happy with her since her last run,” Trainor told Harnesslink.
“To break the 1:50 is pretty cool, especially for her breeding.”
The four-year-old has been in incredible form since her move to Australia this year after taking on New Zealand’s best-pacing fillies.
Braeview Kelly is the winner of six of her eight Australian starts, with two victories at stakes level and she has never finished further back than second.
Her brilliant form has led to her trainer nominating the mare for the A$100,000 Group One Queen Of The Pacific at Melton this weekend.
Trainor made a key move in the Frith Stakes, pressing forward to take the lead after settling third early.
From there, Braeview Kelly unleashed brilliant 400 metre sectionals of 26.8, 28.7, 26.8 and 27.3 to complete her epic mile win.
Town Echo chased her stablemate hard after following her for much of Saturday night’s feature.
The mare was offered by Hardwood Breeding Syndicate and purchased for $30,000 out of the Breckon Farms’ draft at the 2019 Auckland Yearling Sale.
