Blue-Blooded Line Up for National Yearling Sale

Bloodstock investors will be treated to an array of Group One pedigrees at the 2024 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale at Karaka and Christchurch.

Just five years after entering the standardbred market, NZB Standardbred’s National Yearling Sale has established itself as the best source of elite youngsters in Australasia.

126 blueblood yearlings are catalogued to sell on 18 February in Auckland, while a further 267 precocious youngsters will go under the hammer in the Christchurch sales ring on 20 and 21 February.

There are enough highlights to fill a catalogue all by themselves, but here is just a small selection of some of the highest profile lots across the three days of selling.

Day One Auckland Session (Sunday 18 February)

  • Woodlands Stud offers Lot 5, a full brother to strong racetrack performers Another Masterpiece (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and Invitation Only (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).
  • Lot 13 is a colt by the emerging sire Captaintreacherous from the Group One winning mare Elle Mac (NZ) (Bettors Delight) on account of Breckon Farms who also offer a full sister to the star mare in Lot 30.
  • From Woodlands Stud is Lot 20, a full brother to former champion filly Spanish Armada (NZ) by champion sire Bettor’s Delight.
  • Lot 43 a colt by Lazurus (NZ) is a half-brother to leading New Zealand two-year-old pacer Le Major (NZ) (Art Major) on account of Alabar.
  • Lot 44, a Downbytheseaside filly, is from the stakes-winning mare Ideal Agent (NZ) (American Ideal) offered by Hollis & Robertson Equine Services.
  • Breckon Farms offer a filly by Always B Miki (Lot 46) from Group One-winning pacer Linda Lovegrace (NZ) (Bettors Delight).
  • Breckon Farms trotting talent includes Lot 49, a filly by Tactical Landing from the Group One-producing mare Love Ya Doosie. This is a half-sister to star performers Kyvalley Chief (NZ) (Muscle Hill), Kyvalley Hotspur (NZ)(Muscle Hill) and 2023 Harness Million winner Lovemeto (NZ) (What The Hill).
  • Another from Breckon Farms is Lot 64 is a filly by Captaintreacherous out of the New Zealand Oaks winner, Princess Tiffany (NZ) (Art Major).
  • Lot 97 another colt by Lazurus (NZ) who in turn is a half bother to the multiple stakes-winning pacer Classie Brigade (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) on account of Hollis & Robertson Equine Services.
  • The preparers will also present Lot 98, an Always B Miki half-sister to the Group One winning star It’s All About Faith (NZ)(Captaintreacherous).
  • Alabar will present Lot 105, a Captain Crunch colt from the well-bred family of Albuquerque, making this colt a ¾ brother to superstar Millwood Nike (NZ) (Captaintreacherous).

 

Day One Christchurch Session (Tuesday 20 February)

  • Price Bloodstock will offer Lot 136, a Bettor’s Delight full brother to Republican Party (NZ), Advance Party (NZ) and Debutante Party (NZ).
  • Laura Smith prepares Lot 146 is another from the star-studded family of Merlin (NZ), which traces back to Group One-winning producer Scuse Me (NZ). The colt is by Captaintreacherous from Dream on Me (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) who is a full sister to Group One Winner Dream About Me (NZ).
  • Lot 158 is a Downbytheseaside filly from another New Zealand Oaks winner in Fight for Glory (NZ) (Art Major) on account of White Stables.
  • Studholme Bloodstock present Lot 162, a filly by Captain Crunch from a full sister to Merlin (NZ) (Art Major) in Gemma Mac (NZ).
  • Dancingonthemoonlight present Lot 188. A full-brother to star mare Braeview Kelly (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and a half-brother to brilliant three-year-old Ohoka Connor (NZ) (Sunshine Beach).
  • Lot 205 on account of LF Daly, is a Bettor’s Delight colt from the New Zealand record-breaking race mare Kiwi Ingenuity (NZ) (Christian Cullen).
  • Lot 246 is a colt by Captain Crunch from the star mare One Dream (NZ) (Dream Away) on account of B Leary, half brother to Group One winner Montana D J (NZ) (Captaintreacherous).

Day Two Christchurch Session (Wednesday 21 February)

A half brother to Cold Chisel, will be offered in Lot 292.
  • Dunvegan Lodge’s draft features a full brother to star pacers turned sires Ultimate Machete (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and Ultimate Sniper (NZ), in Lot 264.
  • Lot 292 is Captaintreacherous is a half-brother to Cold Chisel (Always B Miki) on account of Denario Breeding.
  • Amongst the Studholme draft is Lot 294, a Bettors Delight colt from Don’t Stop Dreaming’s (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) grand-dam Simply Devine (NZ) and excitingly present Lot 301, a full-brother to Don’t Stop Dreaming (NZ).
  • L Smith presents Lot 328. A colt by Bettor’s Delight (NZ) out of the Group One mare The Orange Agent (NZ) (American Ideal).
  • Studholme Bloodstock’s draft also includes a half-sister to stakes performers Manhattan (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and No Matter Wat (NZ) (A RocknRoll Dance) in Lot 332, a filly by Art Major.
  • Lot 392 on account of Spreydon Lodge is a colt by Captain Crunch, from Merlin’s (NZ) half-sister Cullens Bet (NZ) (Christian Cullen).
