Allamericanlover Speeds to Deserved Group One Victory

19 December 2022

A late burst of speed saw Allamericanlover (NZ) (American Ideal) clinch a well-earned Group One title in the $100,000 Rosslands Stud Queen Of Hearts (2200m) at Alexandra Park on Friday night.

The Steve and Amanda Telfer trained mare headed home a quinella of NZB Standardbred graduates when she charged along the inner to beat a game runner-up in Manhattan (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).

Allamericanlover was purchased by Stonewall Stud for $35,000 from the Breckon Farms draft at the 2019 Auckland National Yearling Sale.

During a brilliantly consistent career, the pacer has produced stellar form against both colts and geldings and her own sex in top-level company.

On Friday night, Allamericanlover reminded harness racing fans why she ranks as one of New Zealand’s best mares with her well earnt maiden Group One victory.

In the process, she handed veteran reinsman James Stormont his first Group One driving win since 2007.

Initially, Stormont and Allamericanlover landed in a tricky position on the marker pegs.
But being pushed to the inner eventually proved to work in the pair’s favour.

“At the time I wasn’t thrilled about it but then I ended up three back on the inner and thought we still had a chance,” Stormont said.

“When she got that gap, she showed a good horse’s speed and it is very satisfying and I appreciate the opportunity.”

The Telfer stable are now pondering their future plans for Allamericanlover. Regardless of where she goes, the mare will have more Group One races in her sights.

Allamericanlover will either head towards the feature mares races at Addington early next year or on an Australian campaign.

Manhattan (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) ran a game second behind her fellow NZB Standardbred graduate, Allamericanlover.

Manhattan was purchased for $45,000 from Studholme Bloodstock at the 2019 Christchurch National Yearling Sale by her owners, The Travelling Reserves Syndicate.

Following her prior win in the Group Three Caduceus Club Northern Breeders Stakes, Manhattan led and fought on gamely in the home straight for trainer Bob Butt and driver Matthew White.
