$320,000 Yearling Purchase Reaps Rewards

NZB Standardbred’s 2021 National Yearling Sale topper, Erupt Stride (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), became a stakes winner in just his second start, after claiming a victory in the $A50,000 Group Two Bathurst Gold Crown Consolation (1730m) on Friday 25 March. 

Driver Nathan Jack asked the two-year-old to make his winning run from the 400 metre mark and the colt delivered a powerful finish to score for trainer Darren Binskin.

Erupt Stride was purchased for $320,000 by Peter Lagan Standardbreds on behalf of leading Australian owners Emilio and Mary Rosati of E & M Stride. The colt was prepared and sold by Price Bloodstock at the 2021 Christchurch National Yearling Sale.

Erupt Stride has had just one start prior to his success at Group Two level at Bathurst, running a gutsy third after working hard to find the lead from a wide draw. In start two, Jack found a spot in midfield for Erupt Stride before he used his brilliant turn of foot to win.

Erupt Stride is a descendant of champion producer Scuse Me (NZ) (B G’ Bunny), arguably one of New Zealand’s greatest-ever broodmares and the matriarch of the famed ‘Me’ breed, developed by the late Charlie Roberts and his family.

Erupt Stride is out of Hartofdixie (NZ) (American Ideal), with Scuse Me the mare’s third dam.

Incredibly, the Scuse Me line produced three stakes wins within a matter of minutes on Friday night.

Scuse Me is the third dam of Forever Me (NZ) (Sweet Lou) who firstly won the $67,000 Group Two Crombie Lockwood Bloodstock Delightful Lady Classic (1700m) at Alexandra Park.

The champion producer is also the fourth dam of Merlin (NZ) (Art Major) who took out the $67,000 Group Two Breckon Farms Young Guns Cardigan Bay Stakes (1700m) in the very next race at Alexandra Park for trainers Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan and driver Zachary Butcher.

Merlin was a $120,000 purchase by Dean Shannon’s Montana Park from the 2021 Christchurch National Yearling Sale from Broadfield Lodge’s draft.
